A Day in the Life of a Fluff
People on Kwajalein have a name for non-working spouses: fluff. When Jerrod first heard that term, he thought it was hilarious. But it's a big thing! There are stickers and koozies and everything!
So, here is what my day as a fluff typically looked like in my first three weeks:
6:45am - Jerrod's alarm goes off. I will get up with him if one of the kids is awake or if I can't sleep.
7:30am - My alarm goes off. I wake up the kids if they are still sleeping, get them dressed, make them breakfast, and get their toothbrushes, backpacks, and snacks ready.
8:10am - Hug and kiss the kids goodbye as they head off to school on their bikes.
8:15am-11am - Shower and get dressed, wash the dishes, do a load of laundry, make the beds, connect with friends from the States, and maybe read a little. Have coffee with my new girlfriends on Fridays.
11am - Watch Wheel of Fortune while getting lunch ready.
11:45am-12:15pm - Have lunch with Jerrod and the kids, talk to my parents, clean up from lunch, and send everyone back to school. Often Emmy has made plans to go to a friend's house after school, so I also touch base with parents to make sure this is ok and make a plan for when she needs to return home.
12:15pm-3:45pm - Head to Surfway to see what the grocery selection is like, head "downtown" to check the mail and see what's new at the PX/Exchange and say "hi" to my friend Jacki. Then, often more laundry, friend connections, and sometimes a nap.
3:45pm - Get the kids a snack, unpack their backpacks, and help with homework. Then usually listen to Johnny tell me about the game he is playing while he decompresses from school.
4:45pm - Jerrod arrives home. We prep and eat dinner, go to the pool or beach, and spend time as a family. Start the kids' bedtime routine around 8pm and ours around 10pm.
Now that we've been here awhile, I've made a few commitments that have changed/will change my daily routine. I am helping to coach the swim team, I've volunteered to be Emmy's Girl Scout troop leader, I've gotten a fitness pass (more to come on that later), I've applied to sub, and I've even received an offer for a part time job (more to come on that later)!
Wow! That routine sounds very relaxing. The new one…fun but not relaxing hahaha. Enjoy it all one day at a time!
