Ebeye Rounds 2 and 3
ROUND 2
So, after our failed attempt, we decided to recruit one of Jerrod's educational assistants to take us around Ebeye the second time. We boarded the same Monday afternoon ferry as the last one and headed on over. Ms. Rosita was supposed to meet us on the dock, but when we arrived, she wasn't there. Panic mode sunk in, knowing we had over 3 hours until the next ferry arrived and I was still clueless about where to go on the island. But as we stood on the corner and contemplated what to do, we saw her arrive in her taxi, and relief set in.
She took us to several stores to get all the things we needed in preparation for Manit Week. I don't know how it turned into such an expensive trip with as cheap as things are there, but Emmy will admit to "both" when asked if she is spoiled or well loved, so maybe that's why.
The kids knew what was coming at Triple J when we arrived back to the docks about an hour before our departure...but were in for a disappointing shock when they discovered the ice cream case was empty! Ms. Rosita diverted the meltdown by telling the kids we could get ice cream bars or popsicles across the street at Payless. Well, Payless was also out of ice cream...so they settled for a chocolate milk and cookies and cream Hershey's bar (Johnny) and an Arizona tea and M&Ms (Emmy) as a treat.
Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures from that trip, but I do believe I will end up with lots of pictures as results of that trip!
INTERMISSION STORY TIME
When we arrived, we received a "hospitality kit" which consists of this in terms of dishes:
So, when I was able to purchase and enjoy wine, I had to drink it out of a coffee cup. So, I went to an event at the Bargain Bazaar one afternoon and found a wine glass for $1! What a steal! And then my sweet husband did the dishes one night and that bargain broke. Back to coffee cups. But, apparently while we were in Ebeye for the second time, Jerrod saw a set of two double insulated tumblers (advertised for coffee but perfect for wine) and neglected to show me. Or buy them. But then still told me about them. After we had come home. Knowing they probably wouldn't be there the next time I would able to make the ferry.
ROUND 3
So, I reached out to a few ladies trying to see if anyone was going to Ebeye in an attempt to see if someone would grab me the tumblers...since the ferries don't run during the school day. But then a friend offered to take me around the island on Wednesday if I didn't mind stopping by her classroom first. My sweet husband agreed to do lunch on his own and keep the kids the extra 20ish minutes after school before I arrived home.
I had THE best day! Turns out it was Melissa's birthday (she didn't tell me until we were at the dock). We delivered supplies to her class, watched them sign her happy birthday, and danced our hearts out. Then, we went to the coffee shop (which was TOTALLY worth the hype), did some shopping, and had the most entertaining lunch! I can't wait to go back with her again!
So I need to send you drinking receptacles for wine…on it! Hahahaha love hearing yall loving life
